A driver who hit a parked car and left was caught on CCTV. Convicted on 3 of 6 charges — acquitted of failing to stop because she had voluntarily reported the incident to police.
Court of Magistrates (Malta) — Criminal · Magistrate Antoine Agius Bonnici · 30 March 2026
On 28 April 2025 at 8:56am in Triq Joseph Burlo, Tarxien, Glorianne Curmi struck a parked Opel Astra while driving, causing damage of €1,780.88. She left without leaving details or reporting to a warden. The car owner Michelle Schembri discovered the damage the following day and submitted CCTV footage from a nearby residence clearly showing Curmi's vehicle hitting the parked car. Police traced Curmi, who admitted being involved but said she thought she had only hit one vehicle. Curmi was charged with six offences including careless driving, reckless driving, dangerous driving, causing damage, failing to report and lack of vehicle control. The court convicted her on 3 charges. The reckless and dangerous driving charges were dismissed as covered by the careless driving conviction. On the failure to report charge, the court acquitted her — she had in fact gone to the police station herself after the incident and reported it, even if she mentioned only one vehicle. Her behaviour showed she had not tried to conceal her involvement.
Guilty on 3 charges: careless driving, causing damage to parked vehicle and lack of vehicle control. Acquitted of reckless driving, dangerous driving and failure to report. Fine: €500. Eight penalty points imposed.
