Aronne Camilleri drove recklessly, damaged two vehicles, attacked Ruben Farrugia with an iron pipe (causing only slight injuries despite attempting grievous harm), and threatened him. He was convicted only of damage and threats, acquitted of the attempted grievous bodily harm charges.
Court of Magistrates (Malta) — Criminal · Magistrate Dr. Monica Vella LL.D., M.Jur. · 28 July 2021
On 11 January 2019 at around 4:15pm in Luqa, Aronne Camilleri drove his Mitsubishi Strada recklessly, dangerously and carelessly. He also damaged a Toyota IQ and a Seat Cordoba belonging to EsayGas Malta Ltd and Mary Lourdes Buttigieg (combined damage over €2,500). He confronted Ruben Farrugia with an iron pipe, intending to cause grievous harm, and issued threats. The court convicted Camilleri of the criminal damage and threatening behaviour (charges 1 and 8), but acquitted him of the more serious charges — the attempted grievous bodily harm (charge 2 — acquitted because the injuries were ultimately only slight, not grievous), the actual slight bodily harm charge (charge 3 — also acquitted), and the reckless/dangerous driving charges (acquitted). He was released conditionally on the basis that he commits no further offences for 2 years, under Art. 22 of the Probation Act (Ch. 446).
Guilty of charge 1 (criminal damage over €2,500 — Art. 325(1)(a)) and charge 8 (threats — Art. 339(e)). Acquitted of charges 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 (attempted GBH, actual assault, three driving offences). Released conditionally: no reoffending for 2 years under Ch. 446 Art. 22.
